How was the Liberal Revolution Day born?

The Day of the Liberal Revolution in Guatemala was a revolutionary process led by Miguel García Granados and with an important participation of Justo Rufino Barrios . This event occurred as a result of the struggle between conservatives and liberals in different events since Central American independence.

This event began on May 8, 1871, a little after the conservative Rafael Correa in 1865. On this day, García Granados, the leader of the Liberal Revolution, issued a statement from the Cuartel en Marcha from where he denounced the persecution he has suffered. at the hands of Rafael Correa and calls on the entire country to start a revolution to end the so-called 30-year regime, established by Captain General Rafael Carrera y Turcios in 1840.

Thus, almost two months later, the liberal army entered the capital of Guatemala , achieving the collapse of the conservative government that at that time was under the command of Marshal Vicente Cerna.

For this year 2021 , 150 years of the victory of the Liberal Revolution in the Guatemalan nation are commemorated.
